Pike fishing in Maine has seen a tremendous increase in popularity over the last few years. These large aggressive predators make for great sport on fly rods or light spinning gear. April and May are the best times to experience shallow water pike action. Fishing for pike picks up again in September as the water cools down with the shorter days of fall. | |
| Maine also offers excellent opportunities for both Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass. The largemouth are found in area lakes and ponds. The best Smallmouth fishing is often on streams and rivers. The Kennebec and Androscoggin Rivers both offer superb action for small mouth bass. |  |

A discussion of fresh water fishing in Maine wouldn't be complete without mentioning trout. Maine's legendary trout waters are further North and West than the Kennebec River region. However, the upper Kennebec River does offer some opportunities to land both Brown and Rainbow Trout. This stretch of river is best fished by wading, canoeing or by small boat, depending on the water levels. | |
